About

About GDPIndex

GDPIndex is an analytical reference site for 35 of the world's major economies: the G20 members plus fifteen other large economies. Each country profile combines decades of standardised macroeconomic data with editorial analysis of the structural forces shaping it: institutions, demographics, productivity, currency, trade, and the long history of policy choices.

The site exists because most GDP data on the internet sits inside opaque tables that explain nothing. We pull the numbers from authoritative sources, then write the story behind them in language that an interested reader can follow.

What we cover

  • GDP (current USD), GDP per capita, GDP growth, and GDP at purchasing-power parity.
  • Multi-decade time series with era annotation: liberalisation, crises, expansions, contractions.
  • Comparative rankings — where each economy stands relative to its peers.
  • Country-specific structural questions: middle-income trap, demographic dividend, resource curse, fiscal sustainability, export concentration.

Why these 35 economies

The G20 alone produces roughly 80% of global GDP and represents the major emerging and advanced economies. Concentrating on these profiles gives us the breadth to discuss the world economy meaningfully, without diluting the analysis across two hundred jurisdictions of varying data quality.

AI disclosure

Analytical narrative on country profiles is drafted with the assistance of large language models, then reviewed for factual accuracy against the underlying data tables. Numbers are not generated — they come directly from the cited sources.
